Bespoke Silk Wallcovering Restoration in Mayfair
Project background and scope
Following water damage caused by a leak, Romero Contracts was appointed to investigate the affected areas, protect the original interiors and deliver a complete insurance reinstatement at this private Mayfair residence.
This was an exceptional specialist project, not a routine decorating claim. The property contained bespoke woven silk wall coverings, decorative trims, polished plaster finishes, heritage joinery, timber floors and period furniture. The original fabric was carefully protected while the leak damage was investigated and repaired. We then researched the finish, sourced a specialist manufacturer to recreate the woven silk fabric and coordinated its installation, panel by panel, with the hand-finished joints, borders and shaped details required around the room’s architectural features.
The reinstatement extended beyond the walls. Matching chair and bed coverings were refurbished to complement the renewed silk wall covering; polished plaster walls were restored; floors and timber details were repaired; and French polishing, decorating and careful making-good work returned the property to its original standard.
Projects of this type are rare. They demand patient investigation, exact material matching and coordination between specialist crafts—so the repaired areas feel integral to the original property, not like replacements.
Services delivered:

- Matching upholstery coordination for chair and bed coverings
- Polished plaster and specialist decorative wall finishes

To reach and repair the damage, affected ceilings were carefully opened up, made good, redecorated and closed back so the original lines, joinery and finish were reinstated. The oak parquet flooring was renewed and blended, while adjacent fine woodwork and furniture received specialist French polishing.
